The Barbican Centre
Silk Street E.C.2

The Barbican Centre

After the Second World War, this area of the City was flattened to the ground. Well into the sixties this part of London was still derelict. Work first began in 1971 on clearing the debris from the bomb sites and the whole area was engulfed by the highest blocks of flats of their day, the Barbican Estate. The Barbican Centre, which also houses three cinemas, two theatres, two galleries, a library, and a concert hall, bringing to the city so much needed entertainment that would otherwise be lacking.
